Richard was taught by a number of pipers in and around Galway and was a regular attendee of the piping summer schools around the country.
Richard has won numerous All-Ireland titles on a number of instruments including the uilleann pipes, flute and saxophone.
Richard has performed all over the world with music groups and stage shows. He has travelled extensively with shows such as Celtic Crossroads, Titanic Dance, Irish Celtic, Atlantic Notes and Mise Éire. Richard has performed with bands such as FullSet, Freewheel and ALDOC.
Richard's debut solo album "Sonda" was recorded in his own recording studio - "Dúléim Studios" in Moycullen, Co. Galway. It was released in 2017 and has been described by critics as "musically riveting".
Richard grew up in a musical family in Galway city before moving to Loughrea. Both his parents played and taught music and it seemed inevitable that Richard would follow suit. He initially started on piano, trained classically, before taking up the flute. It wasn't until a chance meeting with uilleann piper Eugene Lambe at a teaching workshop that Richard first heard the pipes. Immediately he was hooked and began to concentrate fully on the instrument.
